Description:

Although the marble slab bearing a bilingual Greek-Hebrew inscription was probably discovered in Jerusalem, its original provenance is uncertain. The rabbi named in the text need not have been interred in Jerusalem. Thomsen suggested that the stone may have originated in Jaffa or in Beth She’arim. Nevertheless, Jerusalem cannot be ruled out as the place of origin. For further details, see CIIP I 1001.
