The word kelilah used to describe this item may be literary translated as a crown, but it means the lamp for sure in this context. The term "crown" for a round lamp (polycandelon) is also known from Christian sources. The last letters of the inscription, "ptp t" may have magical significance. This formula is known from an amulet that was found in the Cairo Genizah. Commentary
This is the only synagogue dedicatory inscription in Aramaic or Hebrew to mention a place.
