Description
date: early 6 c. AD (508 AD? as CIIP III 2460) description: Mosaic floor depicting King David, playing a harp, is pictured as Orpheus charming the animals surrounding him. The scene is put between two richly decorated lintels with geometrical motives. Dimensions: 41.5 in height, and 125 cm in width. Four Hebrew letters are set in a mosaic floor. Size of the letters: 6-6.5 cm (taken from the replica in the Good Samaritan Museum as stated in CIIP III 2461). דויד dwyd 'David' commentary: The name of David appears next to his head, like the labels of biblical figures in the Beth Alfa mosaic and Dura Europos paintings. The Greek inscription CIIP III 2460 dated to 508 CE was part of the same floor so it could have been built in the same time.
