Description
date: 513 CE (the year 561 of the era of Antioch). description: In the north wall of the baptistery, just opposite the basilica, there is a stone lintel with a Syriac inscription. Dimensions: H. 0.56 m; W. 1.95 m. Beneath the inscription one can see a carved disc with a six-pointed star within it. Diameter of the disc: 29 cm. Letter height 5–9.5 cm. First recorded by the PAES and first published by Enno Littmann in 1934 with a drawing. ed. PAES IVB 23. Cf. TIB 15, p. 1160. ܒܝܪܚ ܐܝܪ ܕܫܢܬ ܬ ܩ ܣ ܐ ‘In the month of Īyār (May) of the year 561.’ (tr. E. Littmann, lightly modified) commentary: Littmann noted that a similar formula occurs in PAES IVB 24, another Syriac inscription from the same village.
