Description
Renowned above all for its anchorite’s tower—described in detail by Peña, Castellana, and Fernandez (1980, 166–169)—the settlement of Zarzīta occupies the hill known as Jébel Halaqa, west of Coryphé. The site lies on the historic foot route that linked Aleppo with Antioch. Among the archaeological remains are the vestiges of a monastery overseen by Monophysite administrators.
