Description

Positioned along the margin of the Sermeda plain and close to a Roman-period roadway, Tell Akibrin is a small settlement whose approximate location is indicated on the accompanying map. At the time of Howard Butler’s investigations in the early twentieth century, it was still inhabited, with recent construction intermingling with, and in places overlying, ancient remains. The site’s most striking feature is a four-storey structure that dominates the settlement, though its specific function has not been securely identified. In another sector of the village, the remnants of a chapel are preserved. Further reading: Butler, H. C. (ed.), 1920.
