Description

In the vicinity of Kapropera (modern El-Bara) four monasteries dating to the 6th century have been identified, among them Dayr Ḏibbān, where a Syriac inscription was discovered. Within the settlement itself, excavations revealed an abundance of residential buildings, religious structures, and facilities connected with economic life. Such remains illustrate the town’s prosperity during Late Antiquity. The flourishing of Kapropera in the 5th and 6th centuries was closely linked to its strategic position on the communication route between Laodicea and the Euphrates, which enabled it to emerge as the principal economic center of the region.
