Description

In 1974, excavations conducted on behalf of the Israel Department of Antiquities and Museums revealed the remains of a synagogue dated to the third through fifth centuries, together with installations associated with medieval sugar production, including channels, pools, and pottery. The site had first come to scholarly attention in 1883, when an inscription and architectural fragments—columns and capitals—were recorded. It lies in the Upper Galilee, within Palestina Secunda, approximately 15 km northeast of Safed.
