Description:

Two surviving walls of the ancient structure are built of basalt ashlar masonry. The preserved lengths of these walls measure roughly 14 by 19 meters, indicating that the overall building cannot have been smaller than these dimensions. Several ornamented architectural fragments were recovered at the site, including three lintels: one bearing a pair of menorot, another adorned with the Hercules knot motif, and a third with a menorah. These pieces were most likely originally installed in the synagogue. For further reference, see: Marilyn Joyce Segal Chiat, Handbook of Synagogue Architecture.
