Description:
Before excavation, surface traces along the lakeshore and additional remains north of Tel Kursi (also called El-Kursi hill) led scholars to hypothesize the presence of a synagogue at the site. The building was formally investigated in 2015. During the work, a substantial marble slab bearing a Jewish dedicatory inscription was found installed within the floor. The excavators cautioned that this placement was probably secondary, as the inscription’s letterforms show minimal abrasion consistent with pedestrian wear. Image source: Nun 1989: 9.
