date: 501-600 CE description: 18 fragments of a marble slab, containing seven lines of square Jewish scirpt in fine lettering. Two words were squeezed between the first and second line, perhaps the craftsman forgot to include them and made a correction (L. 2: d[mn] ṭybry[h]). The right margin is preserved, the left margin is damaged. The marble slab was placed in the floor of the synagogue and surrounded by monochrome opus sectile. ed. CIIP V 6632 ידכרון [ל]טב ולברכה ול[--] ט[--] א[--] ד[מן] טיברי[ה] ורב[י חנ]ניה ברה באתנדבון ו[עבדון מרמריה לאיקרה דאתרה [קדישה הדן מן דידהון] ומן פעלהון [מ]ל[ך ע]למה ית[ן] חלקה[ון][--] ובמיצוו[תה דל]עזר דסייע ית[הון][--] [וב]צרק בל הד[ן] אתרה קרישה מל[ך עלמה][--][יתה] ויזכי יתה ויברך יתה אמ[ן][--] 'May [PN] from Tiberias be remembered for the good, and for blessing, and for …, and Rabbi Ḥananiah his son who contributed (and made this) marble for the honor of (his holy) place (from their own funds) and from their property. May the king of the Universe give their share … and by the charity of Laʻazar which aid them … and by the right of all this holy place. The king (of the universe)... and will give him merit and bless him. Amen.' commentary: Some mistakes of the first preliminary edition by Misgav, Artzy and Cohen (2016) were corrected by Elitzur-Leiman (2019). The most up-to-date edition is printed in CIIP V 6632. The persons mentioned in this JPA inscription donated marble for the floor or possibly also other parts of the synagogue and a sum of money for its (re)construction. One or more of the donors came from Tiberias, on the opposite shore of the lake but his name is unknown The personal name of the first donor is not preserved but judging by the lower part of its letters a tentative reading (ʼp[rym]) “Ephraim” was already proposed.
