Description:
The smaller of the town’s two churches is securely dated to 602 AD, placing it among the region’s most recent and best-preserved examples of its type. The plan follows a conventional basilican arrangement, with a central nave flanked by two side aisles. Its most distinctive element is the set of interior arcades, constructed from pairs of large rectangular monoliths that rest on moulded bases and are finished with moulded caps. The exterior is markedly restrained, and the interior is similarly austere, with ornament confined to the caps and bases of the apse breasts and the responds. Image source: PAES II B, III. 386
