Description
date: 400 – 650 CE description: Sepulcral inscription in Greek script on the rectangular front panel of the sarcophagus lid. On the left triangular end of the lid is a decoration of a rosette with six leaves enclosed in a circle. There is also a depiction of the so-called "tree of life" or menorah. Dimensions: 35 x 150 cm x 53 cm. Letter are ca. 5 cm high ed. IIP einn0004 Ἰοσῆς Ζαννεου ἐτ(ῶν) ο´ 'Joses, son of Zanneas (Zano?). Seventy years old.' commentary: This Joses may be identified with Yose, the farther of Abun, known from the Aramaic inscription which was found in the synagogue at En Nashot. Gregg, Robert C., Urman.
