date: 300-400 CE description: Samaritan inscription on a limestone block. The stone was broken and the left part is reconstructed. Dimensions: 40 cm high, 35.5 cm wide, ca. 14 cm thick. Letters: ca. 3 cm high on average. ed. Baillet 1979: 584 [ע]ל שמה ד[אלה] קומה : יהו[ה] ויפצו · איבי[ך] וינסו · משנא[יך] מפניך · כי · יה[וה] אלהיך·בקרבך[·אל] גדול · ונו[רא] "Au nom de Dieu Lève –Toi, YHWH! Que se dispersent Tes ennemis et que ceux qui Te haïssent s’enfuient devant Toi! Car YHWH ton Dieu est au milieu de toi, Dieu grand et redoutable." commentary: The words are usually separated by a middle dot or two dots. This inscription was dated to the 4th century CE based on palaeography. The rare Aramaic phrase attested in the first line has its Hebrew counterpart that is an invocation to God. It cannot be excluded that the reconstruction was incorrect and it should be rather understand as an introduction to a dedicatory inscription. Later (lines 2-5), the inscription gives a quote from the Samaritan Pentateuch (The Book of Numbers 10: 35). The same verse was used in another Samaritan inscription from Beit el-Ma, which is dated to the third-fourth centuries CE. In the end of the preserved text (lines 5-7), the fragment of another biblical fragment in the Samaritan version was given (Deuteronomy 7: 21). Beyer 1984 : 400 (h/ssKQ 2) M.
