Description

A fragment of a pavement mosaic was uncovered beside an ancient cistern at this site. The toponym “La Qatranye” has been interpreted as indicating a dedication to Saint Catherine. Located in the vicinity of the modern village of al-Kabri, the remains appear to represent a modest settlement, probably associated with a monastery. At present, a quarry occupies the base of the slope to the west of the site. Further reading: CIIP V 6054. Desreumaux, A. 1979. Les matériaux du syro-palestinien.
