Description
Situated in Gabal Halaqa, the settlement of Burdaqlī was occupied from the early centuries of the Common Era through the medieval period. Investigations have brought to light material from the Roman phase, including domestic structures, hypogea, and other tombs. Architectural evidence for ecclesiastical activity is attested by two churches, likely founded in the fifth or sixth century. From the Middle Ages, the site preserves remains of dwellings alongside Islamic architecture, notably mosques and a minaret. Further reading: TIB 15 – Todt, K.P., Vest, B.A., 2014.
