Description
Aphek, an archaeological locality in the southern Golan, has so far yielded no deposits predating the Byzantine period. The settlement that once stood there incorporated many pieces from earlier structures, a practice already noted during the earliest recorded work at the site in 1812, when J. Bruckhardt carried out investigations. In 1875, with the village partly in ruins, V. Guerin undertook a detailed survey that focused primarily on the mosque and documented numerous architectural components—such as columns, lintels, and architraves—embedded in the buildings.
