Description
Archaeological remains at Teleda in the Gabal Halaqa region include a monastery, a hypogeum serving as a burial place for monks, and a cistern. No separate chapel or church has been identified; it is possible that liturgical functions were carried out within another building of the complex. This site is known as the “Great Convent,” one of the principal Monophysite centers of northern Syria. The designation reflects the prestige and authority of the institution rather than its physical size. Plan source: Butler, H. C. (ed.), 1920.
