Description

A fort converted to a monastery in Jabal Šubayṯ registered in TIB 15 on p. 1790 as Tall Durayhim. Also spelt: Tell Drēhem, Durayḥib, Drêhem, DRYḤB. The date of the construction of the fort is not know. At some point in Late Antiquity it was abandoned and by the sixth century resettled by hermits. This probably resulted in some new constructions to adapt the site. Klaus Peter Todt and Bernard Andreas Ves in TIB 15, p. 1790 give the following checklist of buildings: a walled hilltop fort (measures c.50 x 30 m), cistern, 12 towers. Literature (bibliography after TIB 15, p. 1790): TIB 15 – Todt, K.P., Vest, B.A., Tabula Imperii Byzantini, vol. 15 (Vienna: Verlag der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, 2014), p. 1790. Peña, I., Castellana, P., Fernandez, R., Les Reclus Syriens (Jerusalem: Franciscan Printing Press, 1980), p. 83. Inscriptions: Mouterde, R., Poidebard, A., Le limes de Chalcis.
