Description
Beroia (now Aleppo), a major city of North Syria situated to the east of Antioch on the Orontes. The history and archaeology are extensively described by Klaus Peter Todt and Bernard Andreas Vest in Tabula Imperii Byzantini, vol. 15 (Vienna: Verlag der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften, 2014), 665–801. We present here two Syriac inscriptions that were found in the environs of the city though their exact location is unknown. Giron, N., ‘Inscriptions syriaques’, Journal Asiatique 19 (1922), 88–93 (a prayer for water, perhaps symbolic). Pognon, H. Inscriptions sémitiques de la Syrie, de la Mésopotamie et de la région de Mossoul (Paris, Imprimerie Nationale: 1907), no. 83 (a dedicatory inscription).
